The sea turtle recovery center of Molfetta was founded in December 2005 and is located at the "G.Cozzoli school complex" in Via Berlinguer in Molfetta. The Center is currently located in an area of 200 square meters and annually manages approximately 110 specimens of sea turtles.
In CRAS WWF of Molfetta there is also a photo exhibition (40 photos) with photographs taken by the center’s member Corrado Tatulli during his numerous dives in the most beautiful coral reefs and sea beds in the world. Corrado died just during a dive near Polignano in 2000, the family, in memory of Corrado’s commitment to the nature and the sea, wanted to give his best photos to the Molfetta Center. In the center there is also a panel exhibition which illustrates the Sea turtles project of the International WWF. The Molfetta Center currently hosts also some specimens of reptiles seized by the police forces and assigned to the center for appropriate treatment.
Moreover, other important partners in the implementation of the activities are the security forces, primarily the harbor masters, the financial police and the carabinieri which, with the help of ships, facilitate the liberation of the turtles.
Another important partner in agreement with the center is the one with the institute of Marine Biology of the province of Bari.
The center is open all year upon bookings by telephone at 346.6062937 or via fax at no. 080.3218627.
