The Old Convent of the Dominican friar community gave life to the structure currently known as the Fabbrica San Domenico (Factory Of San Domenico). It was founded with the church dedicated to the saint having the same name in 1636 thanks to the donations of Monsignor, Giacinto Petronio. It was adapted for different uses: the barrack for the government of Murat, private accommodations and schools during the eighteenth and nineteenth century. It then became a station for the English troops during the Allied occupation. It consists of a large cloister and three floors. Since 1991, the Fabbrica (Factory) was re-adapted as a cultural container. This is where the Municipal Library “G. Panunzio”, the Historical Archive, the Gipsoteque “G. Cozzoli”, the Permanent Ethnographic Exhibition of the Sea and the Auditorium “B. Finocchiaro” are located. The cloister and Auditorium host theatrical performances, concerts, exhibitions and conferences.
