The Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta[Cathedral of St. Mary of the Assumption] was the former church of the Jesuit structure in the city. After the suppression of the order, the bishop Antonucci transformed in the new cathedral. The consecration took place on July 10, 1785, when the bones of St. Conrad of Bavaria were transferred to the Duomo. The interior is characterized by a barrel-vaulted cuts, interrupted by a dome and ended with a rise in the presbyterial half shell to cloves in the apse. On the side of the room, there are 2 series of chapels. Amongst the most striking are the Cappella del S.S. Crocifisso[Chapel of the Holy Crucifix] and the Cappella dei S.S. Pietro e Paolo[Chapel of the Saints Peter and Paul], where the remains of St. Conrad are preserved. At the side of the great main altar, there are two big chapels, one dedicated to the Suffering Madonna and the other to Our Lady of the Assumption. In the latter, there is the altarpiece of Corrado Giaquinto, dated 1747, depicting the ascension of the Virgin, while at the bottom, around its sarcophagus, are located the remains of St. Nicolas of Bari, St. Conrad of Bavaria, St. Anthony of Padua and St. Peter and Paul.
